Saint Petersburg Radio and TV Symphony Orchestra
The Saint Petersburg Radio and TV Symphony Orchestra, originally known as the Leningrad Radio Orchestra, was established in 1931. This ensemble began as a small group organized at Leningrad Radio and quickly expanded to a full symphony orchestra. During World War II, it was the only symphony orchestra remaining in the blockaded city of Leningrad, and under the direction of Karl Eliasberg, it performed the historic Leningrad première of Shostakovich's Seventh Symphony in August 1942. Known for its flexibility and adaptability, the orchestra has collaborated with numerous conductors over the years, including Stanislav Gorkovenko. The orchestra has a rich discography, performing works ranging from classical staples like Vivaldi's "The Four Seasons" to Mahler's symphonies.
