Yan Jiemin
Jiemin Yan is a distinguished Erhu artist and professor, currently serving as a doctoral supervisor at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, China. Born in Hangzhou, she began her musical journey at the age of six and by ten was studying at the Primary School Affiliated to Shanghai Conservatory of Music under the tutelage of Professors Dacan Chen and Yi Wang. Yan graduated with highest honors from the Central Conservatory of Music, where she studied Erhu Performance and Composition under Professors Guotong Wang and Zhenmin Xu. She holds the distinction of being the first person in China to acquire double bachelor’s degrees in Chinese Folk Music Performance and Composition.

Yan's career is marked by her active presence on both national and international stages, performing in Asia, Europe, North America, and Australia. She has released several solo albums and collaborated with numerous composers and orchestras at prestigious music festivals worldwide. Her exceptional talent has earned her accolades, such as being described as an “electrifying virtuoso” and the “Oistrakh of China” by De Volkskrant, a leading Dutch newspaper. Yan has also been a prominent figure on CCTV, China's most-watched TV station.

In addition to her performing career, Yan holds several leadership roles, including Vice President of the Erhu Society of the Chinese Musician’s Association and Vice President of the Huqin Professional Committee of the China Nationalities Orchestra Society. She is also a Visiting Professor at Xi’an Conservatory of Music and a Visiting Concertmaster of the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra. Her accolades include winning first prize in the National Junior Folk Instrumental Solo Competition in 1982, second prize in the Erhu Youth Professional Group of the ART Cup Chinese Instruments International Competition in 1989, and first place in the Taipei International Chinese International Concerto Competition in 1994.
