Velha Guarda da Mangueira is a celebrated Brazilian samba group that was founded in 1956 by legendary figures Carlos Cachaça, Cartola, and Aloísio Dias. The group was established as part of the G.R.E.S. Estação Primeira De Mangueira, one of the most prestigious samba schools in Rio de Janeiro. Known for preserving the pure samba tradition, Velha Guarda da Mangueira played a crucial role in promoting the artistic heritage of their community while celebrating the legacy of iconic sambistas like Carlos Cachaça, Padeirinho, and Nelson Cavaquinho.

The group's lineup has seen various changes over the years, with notable members including Ary, Erivá, Zenith, Miguel, Creusa, Genuíno, Mocinho, Quincas, Soninha, Tia Zélia, Zezinho, Dona Neuma, Darcy da Mangueira, Xangô da Mangueira, Jurandir da Mangueira, and Tantinho da Mangueira. The ensemble is known for its vibrant performances featuring classic sambas and new compositions from emerging talents within the Mangueira community.

In 1986, the group was revitalized under the leadership of Aluízio Dias, Darcy da Mangueira, and Aryzinho, and they performed primarily at the Mangueira school. By 1989, with the help of Japanese producer Katsunori Tanaka, they recorded an album that was released in Japan, featuring tracks such as "Mangueira, divina e maravilhosa" and "Pedi perdão."

The group's discography includes notable albums like "Chico Buarque & Velha Guarda Da Mangueira" (1998), "Velha Guarda da Mangueira e Convidados" (1999), and "75 Anos – Mangueira Definitiva" (2003). Their music has been praised for maintaining the authentic sound of roots samba, and they have performed alongside celebrated artists like Beth Carvalho, who was chosen as their madrinha (godmother).
