Vee Lawnhurst
Vee Lawnhurst, born Laura Lowenherz on November 24, 1905, in New York City, was a celebrated pop pianist and a pioneering figure in radio. She began her career making records and piano rolls before transitioning to songwriting. Despite her timidity, she was known for her brilliant duets with pianists like Constance Mering and Muriel Pollack and sang on records and radio. After the death of her lyricist partner Roy Turk, she teamed up with Tot Seymour, forming a successful songwriting duo. Their partnership was notably successful in 1935, with several hits on "Your Hit Parade." Lawnhurst was renowned for her rhythmic and harmonic piano style, which brought a rhapsodic quality to her performances. She eventually retired from public life, spending her later years in Manhattan, cherishing her memories and her Mason & Hamlin piano. Lawnhurst passed away on May 16, 1992, in New York City. She was married to Jack Currier Lewis.
