Valerie Simpson
Valerie Simpson, born on August 26, 1946, in The Bronx, New York, is a renowned composer and actress. She is best known for her work as part of the iconic husband-and-wife duo Ashford & Simpson, alongside her late husband Nickolas Ashford. The couple began their illustrious career in the 1960s, writing and producing numerous soul hits, particularly for Motown artists such as Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell. Their songwriting credits include classics like "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" and "You're All I Need to Get By." As performers, Ashford & Simpson achieved fame with hits like "Solid" and "Found a Cure." Valerie Simpson's solo work includes albums such as "Exposed" (1971) and "Valerie Simpson" (1972). The duo was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2002 and received several prestigious awards, including the Grammy Trustee Award.
