Valentin Nesterov
Career: Nesterov is an Honoured Artist of Russia who has conducted various ensembles, including choirs, symphony orchestras, and opera troupes. His wide-ranging repertoire includes the works of composers such as Bach, Handel, Mozart, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Mahler, and Shostakovich.
Academic role: He is a professor at the St. Petersburg Conservatory.
Background: His interest in early music dates to the 1960s and 1970s. As a boy, he sang in a choir conducted by S. Samosud, where he first performed Mozart's Requiem, a piece for which he has a special appreciation.
