Tommy McClennan
Tommy McClennan was an American Delta blues singer and guitarist, born on January 4, 1905, in Durant, Mississippi. Known for his rough and energetic style, McClennan made significant contributions to the blues genre during his brief recording career from 1939 to 1942. He recorded a series of tracks for Bluebird Records, including notable singles like "Bottle It Up and Go," "New Highway No. 51," "Shake 'Em on Down," and "Whiskey Head Woman." McClennan often collaborated with his friend Robert Petway, and his voice can be heard on Petway's recording of "Boogie Woogie Woman."

Several of McClennan's songs have been covered by other artists, such as "Cross Cut Saw Blues" by Albert King and "My Baby's Gone" by Moon Mullican. His song "I'm a Guitar King" was featured in the 1959 collection "The Country Blues" by Folkways Records. McClennan's influence extended to artists like Bob Dylan, who covered "Highway 51" on his debut album.

Tommy McClennan passed away from bronchopneumonia on May 9, 1961, in Chicago, Illinois, at the age of 56. His legacy continues to be celebrated in the blues community, and his work remains a testament to the enduring power of Delta blues music.
