The Wild Tchoupitoulas
The Wild Tchoupitoulas were a musical group originating from New Orleans, Louisiana, known for their distinctive blend of Mardi Gras Indian music and funk. The group was formed in the early 1970s by George "Big Chief Jolly" Landry, who identified with Choctaw heritage. Named after the Tchoupitoulas tribe, the group was a significant part of the Mardi Gras Indian tradition.

In 1976, The Wild Tchoupitoulas recorded their self-titled album with the assistance of local New Orleans musicians, including the Meters. The album featured traditional "call-and-response" style chants and was notable for the involvement of Landry's nephews, the Neville Brothers, who contributed harmonies and instrumentation. The production was overseen by the renowned New Orleans musician and producer Allen Toussaint.

Though the album did not achieve commercial success, it was critically acclaimed and played a pivotal role in encouraging the Neville Brothers to pursue a career as a group. The Wild Tchoupitoulas' unique sound and cultural significance have left a lasting impact on the musical landscape of New Orleans.
