The Jordanaires
The Jordanaires were an American vocal quartet formed in 1948 in Springfield, Missouri. Initially a gospel group, they expanded their repertoire to include country, rock and roll, and folk music. The group became prominent for their work with Elvis Presley, providing backing vocals for his live performances, recordings, and films from 1956 to 1970. The classic lineup during this period included Gordon Stoker, Neal Matthews Jr., Hoyt Hawkins, and Hugh Jarrett, with Ray Walker replacing Jarrett in 1958. The Jordanaires also collaborated with other artists and were known for their versatility in the studio, on stage, and on television. They recorded with major labels such as Capitol Records, RCA Victor, and Decca Records, and were members of the Grand Ole Opry. The group continued to perform and record until 2013.
