The Classics
The Classics were an American vocal group formed in 1958 in Brooklyn, New York. The group originally consisted of Emil Stucchio, Tony Victor, Johnny Gambale, and Jamie Troy, who began singing together in high school. Two of the members had previously been part of another group called The Del-Rays. Managed by Jim Gribble, The Classics recorded their first single, "Cinderella," in 1959, which gained some attention by bubbling under the US Hot 100 in early 1960. Their subsequent singles, "Angel Angela" and "Life Is But a Dream," also saw some success, with the latter reaching the lower regions of the R&B Singles chart when picked up by Mercury Records.

The group's breakthrough came with the release of "Blue Moon," which featured Herb Lance on lead vocals and peaked at #50 on the charts. In 1963, they signed with Musicnote Records and released "Till Then," which became their biggest hit, reaching #20 on the pop charts and #7 on the Adult Contemporary chart. The Classics were known for their ballads and often performed versions of pop standards from the 1920s and 1930s. Despite frequently changing record labels, the group remained active until about 1966.

Emil Stucchio later revived the group in the 1970s and continued to tour in the 1990s and 2000s with various lineups, including former Mystic Al Contrera, Scott LaChance, Michael Paquette, and Teresa McClean. The group's legacy is marked by their harmonious vocal style and memorable hits, particularly "Till Then."
