Ted Persons
Ted Persons, a pen name for Simon Schwartz, was a lyricist born in 1909 and passed away in 1988. He is noted for writing the lyrics to the jazz standard "Things Ain't What They Used to Be," a piece composed by Mercer Ellington. In addition to this, he wrote the lyrics for the Ray Nance tune "Otto Make That Riff Staccato." Beyond his contributions to music, Schwartz was a member of the Socialist Labor Party and later broke away from it in the 1960s. He had a keen interest in Chile and Allende, which inspired him to write a history from a Marxist perspective. Schwartz was also a producer, known for the TV show "AdLibbers" in the early 1950s.
