Stevie Ray Vaughan, born Stephen Ray Vaughan on October 3, 1954, in Dallas, Texas, was an iconic American blues guitarist and vocalist, celebrated for his dynamic guitar-playing style that sparked a revival of blues-rock music in the mid-1980s. Inspired by his older brother Jimmie Vaughan, Stevie began playing guitar at age seven. He dropped out of high school to pursue music, eventually forming the band Double Trouble in Austin, Texas, in 1978.

Vaughan's breakthrough came after performing at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 1982, where he caught the attention of David Bowie, leading to a collaboration on Bowie's album "Let's Dance." Vaughan and Double Trouble signed with Epic Records, releasing their debut album "Texas Flood" in 1983, which was a critical and commercial success. His bold, over-driven guitar sound became his signature, and he was instrumental in the blues revival of the 1980s.

Throughout his career, Vaughan released four studio albums, with "In Step" being his final and one of his most successful releases. Despite struggling with alcoholism and drug addiction, he completed rehabilitation and continued to achieve significant success. Tragically, Vaughan's life was cut short at age 35 when he died in a helicopter crash on August 27, 1990, in East Troy, Wisconsin. His legacy endures, with posthumous releases and over 15 million albums sold in the United States alone.
