Sächsische Staatskapelle
The Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden, also known as the Saxon State Orchestra Dresden, is one of the oldest orchestras in the world, founded in 1548 by Maurice, Elector of Saxony. Based in Dresden, Germany, the orchestra is a key component of the Semper Opera House, where it performs in opera pits and on concert platforms. The orchestra has a storied history, having been associated with renowned composers and conductors such as Heinrich Schütz, Carl Maria von Weber, Richard Wagner, and Richard Strauss. Strauss, in particular, had a long-standing relationship with the orchestra, premiering several of his works with them.

Throughout its history, the orchestra has seen many distinguished conductors, including Karl Böhm, Herbert Blomstedt, Giuseppe Sinopoli, and Christian Thielemann. The current principal conductor, Daniele Gatti, will take up his post in the 2024/2025 season. The Staatskapelle Dresden is celebrated for its distinctive "Dresden sound" and has been recognized with numerous accolades, including the European Cultural Foundation Prize for the Preservation of the World’s Musical Heritage.

The orchestra's extensive discography includes recordings dating back over a century, with contributions to radio productions and a series known as the "Edition Staatskapelle Dresden." The Staatskapelle Dresden is not only a performing ensemble but also an institution committed to nurturing young talent through initiatives such as the Giuseppe Sinopoli Academy and educational programs like "Kapelle for Kids."
