Rabon Delmore
Rabon Delmore, born on December 3, 1916, in Elkmont, Alabama, was a pioneering country music artist best known as one half of The Delmore Brothers, alongside his older brother Alton Delmore. Raised in a family of tenant farmers, Rabon was immersed in a rich tradition of gospel music and Appalachian folk from a young age, largely influenced by his mother, Mollie Delmore, who was a gospel songwriter and singer.

Rabon and Alton began performing as a duo in the mid-1920s, blending gospel harmonies with traditional folk and blues, contributing to the emerging genre of country music. They were among the few musicians of their time to incorporate the tenor guitar, which Rabon played, into their performances. The Delmore Brothers gained significant popularity in the 1930s, becoming stars of the Grand Ole Opry and recording extensively with labels such as Columbia, Bluebird, and Decca.

Throughout their career, the Delmore Brothers were known for their intricate harmonies and complex guitar work, influencing many future country musicians. Despite facing challenges, such as disagreements with Opry management and Alton's vocal issues, the duo continued to innovate and perform until Rabon's untimely death on December 4, 1952. Their legacy remains significant in the history of country music.
