Mr. C
Richard West, known professionally as Mr. C, was born on January 2, 1965, in Mile End, London, and is originally from Holloway, London, England. He is a prominent figure in the house music scene, recognized as a DJ, producer, rapper, and actor. His career began in the London club scene at the age of 16, where he gained a reputation as a lively rapper. He became a resident rapper at Camden Palace and recorded his first deep house track "Page 67" with Eddie Richards under the name Myster-E in 1987.
Mr. C transitioned to DJing later that year and has since been involved in organizing and promoting numerous club nights, including Fantasy, Base, Release, Harmony, Drop, Cyclone, Vapourspace, Flavour, Subterrain, Superfreq, and Super Disco Freq. In December 1995, he co-founded The End nightclub in London with Layo Paskin and later the AKA bar.
As the frontman of The Shamen, Mr. C achieved commercial success with hits like "Move Any Mountain" and the UK number 1 "Ebeneezer Goode." He has recorded under various aliases and collaborated with artists such as Francis Harris, Affie Yusuf, Omid 16b, and [a]pendics.shuffle. His discography includes solo EPs and albums such as "Smell The Coffee" and "Incidents," and he has released music on labels like Poker Flat, Wagon Repair Records, Get Physical Music, and Adjunct Audio.
Mr. C is the founder of Plink Plonk records, co-founder of End Recordings, and owner of the Superfreq label, which he relaunched in 2013. The label has released numerous digital EPs and albums.
