Maroon 5 is an American pop rock band originating from Los Angeles, California. The group initially formed in 1994 as Kara's Flowers when original members Adam Levine, Jesse Carmichael, Mickey Madden, and Ryan Dusick were in high school. They released an independent album, ...We Like Digging?, and later signed with Reprise Records to release The Fourth World in 1997. However, the album's lackluster response led to the band being dropped by the label, and the members pursued college education.

In 2001, the band reformed as Maroon 5, adding guitarist James Valentine to the lineup. They signed with Octone Records and released their debut album, Songs About Jane, in 2002. The album, featuring hit singles like "Harder to Breathe," "This Love," and "She Will Be Loved," achieved significant success, peaking at number six on the Billboard 200 and going quadruple platinum by 2005. That same year, Maroon 5 won the Grammy Award for Best New Artist.

Following the departure of drummer Ryan Dusick due to injuries in 2006, Matt Flynn joined the band. Maroon 5's subsequent albums, including It Won't Be Soon Before Long (2007), Hands All Over (2010), and Overexposed (2012), continued to garner commercial success. The band saw several lineup changes, with Jesse Carmichael taking a hiatus in 2012 and returning in 2014, and PJ Morton and Sam Farrar joining as official members over the years.

The band's musical style incorporates pop, pop rock, funk rock, blue-eyed soul, and dance-pop influences. Maroon 5 has released several successful albums and singles, with notable hits like "Moves Like Jagger," "One More Night," "Sugar," and "Girls Like You." Despite controversies, including the departure of bassist Mickey Madden in 2020, Maroon 5 has maintained a prominent presence in the music industry, releasing albums such as Jordi (2021) and continuing to perform, including a Las Vegas Residency starting in 2023.
