Juan Llossas was a Spanish musician, composer, and conductor born on July 27, 1900, in Barcelona, Spain, and passed away on May 21, 1957, in Salzburg, Austria. Coming from a respected merchant family, Llossas was initially expected to take over the family business. However, he pursued his passion for music, studying piano and organ while receiving a strict education as a monastery student. His journey into music led him to South America as a stowaway, where he immersed himself in Latin American rhythms.

Upon returning to Barcelona, he was allowed to formally study music, attending the Tonkunst-Akademie in Darmstadt and furthering his studies in Berlin. Llossas financed his education by performing as a pianist in nightclubs and began composing music. He became enamored with the tango and founded the Original Spanisch-Argentinische Tangokapelle Juan Llossas, achieving a breakthrough performance at the Femina-Bar in Berlin in 1929.

Llossas gained recognition by winning the "Goldene Funkuhr" in a Berlin radio competition in 1930. His orchestra became highly sought after, necessitating the use of a plane to meet performance commitments. His music was recorded extensively, and his orchestra was featured in sound films. Known for compositions like "Tango Bolero," Llossas was dubbed the "German King of Tango" due to his prolific output, including a weekly tango for a radio show.

During World War II, Llossas was involved with the Spanish Falange and performed for the Nazi regime's "Kraft durch Freude" organization. Despite conflicts with the Reichsmusikkammer, he emerged from the war relatively unscathed, continuing his career in Hamburg. He contributed to the British Forces Network, composing and performing with his orchestra.

Llossas's legacy includes numerous recordings and compositions, such as "Amor y odio," "Caricias," and "Tango apasionado." His work remains influential in the world of tango music.
