José Rial, born on November 14, 1896, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, was a prominent lyricist and guitarist known by the nickname "El Vasquito." He spent his life in the neighborhood of Parque Patricios, an area rich in tango history. Rial's father, a lover of poetry, passed on his passion for improvisation and verse to his son. At 17, Rial received his first guitar, marking the beginning of his journey as a payador, a singer known for ad-libbing lyrics.

Rial's early career included membership in the gaucho group Gloria, Patria y Tradición, where he performed in theaters and movie houses. His collaboration with Guillermo Barbieri led to the creation of "Rosa de otoño," a waltz recorded by Carlos Gardel in 1923, which marked the start of Rial's career as a composer.

Throughout his career, Rial registered 47 works with SADAIC, with about 20 gaining popularity through recordings. Notable songs include "Preparate pa'l domingo," "Ebrio," "Hágame el favor," and "Pobre amigo." His works were celebrated and recorded by various artists, solidifying his place in the tango music scene. José Rial passed away on July 8, 1954, leaving behind a rich legacy in Argentine music.
