Joe Burke
Joe Burke (1939–2021) was an esteemed accordion player from Kilnadeema, Loughrea, County Galway, Ireland. He is celebrated as one of the most influential figures in Irish traditional music. Known for his infectious passion for the genre, Burke was not only an outstanding musician but also highly knowledgeable about the history and development of Irish music. His career was marked by numerous recordings, performances, teaching, and appearances on radio and television. Renowned for his humor and wit, he was a beloved figure in the music community. In the months before his passing, Burke worked with the Irish Traditional Music Archive to make previously unreleased recordings of Michael Coleman available to the public, fulfilling one of his final musical ambitions.
