Michael James Kale, known as Jim Kale, is a Canadian musician born on August 11, 1943, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. He is best recognized as the bassist for the renowned rock band The Guess Who. Kale's career in music began in 1958, and he has been active ever since. He played bass guitar on many of The Guess Who's most famous tracks, including hits like "These Eyes," "Laughing," "No Time," "Hand Me Down World," "Share the Land," and the iconic "American Woman," which he co-wrote with his bandmates Garry Peterson, Randy Bachman, and Burton Cummings.

Kale left The Guess Who in 1973 following the release of the "Live at the Paramount" album and subsequently joined the band Scrubbaloe Caine. In 1978, after The Guess Who had disbanded, Kale discovered that the band's name had not been trademarked. He registered the name and reformed The Guess Who, continuing to perform with various line-ups of the band over the years. Although his health prevented him from participating in the 2000-2003 tours, Kale remains a co-owner of The Guess Who name and continues to tour with original drummer Garry Peterson.
