Jeanette Miles
Jeanette Miles was a member of the 1960s girl group, the Starlets, which was formed in Chicago, Illinois, in early 1961. The group originally consisted of Jeanette Miles, Jane Hall, Maxine Edwards, and Mickie McKinney, all aged 18 and 19. They were later joined by Liz Walker, also known as Dynetta Boone, after being introduced to songwriter Bernice Williams. The Starlets are best known for their hit "Better Tell Him No," which peaked at number 38 on the Billboard Pop charts and number 24 on the R&B chart in 1961. They toured with prominent artists such as Jackie Wilson, The Spinners, Gladys Knight and the Pips, and Mary Wells. The group faced a setback when their recording of "I Sold My Heart to the Junkman" was credited to another group, the Blue Belles, leading to a legal dispute and eventual settlement. Despite their early success, the Starlets disbanded after being misled about their ability to record elsewhere following the "Junkman" incident.
