Jamie Cullum
Jamie Paul Joseph Cullum, born on August 20, 1979, in Rochford, Essex, England, is a renowned English jazz-pop singer, pianist, songwriter, and radio presenter. Raised in Hullavington, Wiltshire, Cullum's diverse heritage includes a Jewish father whose mother fled Nazi Germany, and a mother with Indian and Burmese roots. Despite failing his grade 4 piano exam and admitting to barely reading music, Cullum pursued his passion for music alongside his studies in English Literature and Film Studies at the University of Reading, where he graduated with First-Class Honours.
Cullum's musical career began with his self-produced debut album, "Heard It All Before," in 1999, followed by "Pointless Nostalgic" in 2002, which garnered attention from major broadcasters and led to a contract with Universal. His third studio album, "Twentysomething," released in 2003, achieved platinum status and established him as the UK's best-selling jazz artist. Known for his crossover style, Cullum's music spans jazz, pop, and swing, drawing inspiration from artists like Miles Davis. He is also recognized for his innovative use of a stomp box and looping machine in live performances.
In addition to his musical achievements, Cullum has been a radio presenter on BBC Radio 2 since 2010. He is married to Sophie Dahl, with whom he has two children. Throughout his career, Cullum has released nine studio albums, including notable works like "Catching Tales," "The Pursuit," "Momentum," "Interlude," and "Taller."
