Hank Snow
Clarence Eugene "Hank" Snow, born on May 9, 1914, in Brooklyn, Nova Scotia, emerged from a challenging childhood marked by poverty and family strife to become a legendary figure in country music. His parents, George Snow and Maude Marie Hatt, both musically inclined, separated when Hank was eight, leading to a tumultuous upbringing. Despite these hardships, Snow's mother encouraged his musical aspirations, inspired by his idol, Jimmie Rodgers.

Hank Snow's musical journey began in earnest when he worked as a cabin boy on fishing schooners, escaping an abusive stepfather. He purchased his first guitar with his earnings and began developing his musical skills, eventually performing at kitchen parties and local events. His professional career took off in 1933 with a radio show on CHNS Radio in Halifax, where he adopted the stage name "Hank, The Yodeling Ranger."

In 1935, Snow married Minnie Blanche Aalders, and the couple had a son, Jimmie Rodgers Snow. Hank's career gained momentum with his first recording in 1936 for RCA Victor's Bluebird label, marking the beginning of a 47-year contract, the longest in recording history. His breakthrough came with the song "I'm Moving On" in 1950, which topped the country charts and solidified his status as a country music star.

Snow's influence extended beyond his music; he played a pivotal role in the early career of Elvis Presley, introducing him to the Grand Ole Opry and Colonel Parker. Over his career, Snow sold over 70 million records, recorded more than 100 albums, and received numerous accolades, including induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Canadian Music Hall of Fame.

Hank Snow passed away on December 20, 1999, in Madison, Tennessee, leaving behind a rich legacy celebrated at the Hank Snow Home Town Museum in Liverpool, Nova Scotia. His music, characterized by themes of travel, freedom, and personal struggle, continues to resonate with audiences worldwide.
