Guilherme Arantes
Guilherme Arantes, born on July 28, 1953, in São Paulo, Brazil, is a renowned Brazilian singer-songwriter and pianist. He began his musical journey as a teenager with the band "Polissonante," which included Brazilian actor Kadu Moliterno on bass guitar. In 1969, Arantes co-founded the band Moto Perpétuo with fellow students from the University of São Paulo's architecture course, gaining his first experiences of touring and studio recording. The band dissolved in 1974 as Arantes sought to explore a more personal and emotional pop music style.
Arantes left university to focus on his solo career, achieving significant success in 1976 when his song "Meu Mundo e Nada Mais" was featured in the Rede Globo telenovela "Anjo Mau," leading to his first national tour. His self-titled debut album was released the same year, with another track, "Cuide-se Bem," also becoming a telenovela hit. Over his career, Arantes has contributed 23 songs to Globo's telenovelas, many of which became radio hits.
Beyond his solo work, Arantes has written songs for prominent Brazilian artists such as Elis Regina, Marina Lima, Roberto Carlos, and Maria Bethânia. His album "Condição Humana" was acclaimed as the best of 2014 by Premio Multishow and was listed as the best of the decade by RedBull in 2010. His 2017 album "Flores & Cores" was ranked the 13th best Brazilian album of the year by Rolling Stone Brasil. In 2021, he released "A Desordem dos Templários" amidst the COVID-19 pandemic and has since been residing in Avila, Spain. Arantes is preparing a new album set for release in early 2026, coinciding with a major tour to celebrate his 50-year career.
