Giuseppe Di Stefano
Giuseppe Di Stefano (24 July 1921 – 3 March 2008) was an Italian operatic tenor renowned for his exceptional vocal talent, earning him the nicknames "Golden Voice" and "The Most Beautiful Voice." Born in Motta Sant'Anastasia, Sicily, he moved to Milan at a young age. Initially educated at a Jesuit seminary, Di Stefano briefly considered the priesthood before pursuing a career in music. He studied under baritones Luigi Montesanto and Mariano Stabile, focusing on clear diction.

World War II interrupted his early career, but he entertained troops with his singing and later performed under the pseudonym Nino Florio. After the war, he gained attention through recordings on Lausanne Radio. Di Stefano's career flourished as a lyric tenor, with notable roles in operas such as Donizetti's "L'Elisir d'Amore" and Verdi's "La Traviata." He made his New York debut at the Metropolitan Opera in 1948 as the Duke of Mantua in Verdi's "Rigoletto."

Admired by fellow tenors Luciano Pavarotti and José Carreras, Di Stefano's influence extended beyond his performances. He was married twice, to Maria Girolami and later Monika Curth, and had three children. Di Stefano passed away in 2008 in Santa Maria Hoè, Italy, due to injuries from an attack. His legacy as a celebrated operatic tenor endures.
