Fud Candrix
Alfons "Fud" Candrix, born on July 17, 1908, in Tongeren, Belgium, was a prominent jazz saxophonist, violinist, and bandleader. He began his musical career in his brother Jeff Candrix's orchestra, touring throughout western Europe and Morocco. In 1929, he established his own group, the Carolina Stomp Chasers, performing in France and Italy. Throughout his career, Candrix collaborated with notable musicians such as Bernard Etté, Robert De Kers, Jean Omer, Chas Remue, and Gus Deloof.

In the 1930s, Candrix continued to perform across Belgium with his ensemble and recorded extensively into the 1950s. He played as a sideman with renowned artists like Aimé Barelli, Django Reinhardt, and Hubert Rostaing. In 1936, he formed a big band that became one of Europe's leading swing bands. During the German occupation of Belgium, he led a new band, performed in Berlin, and recorded several pieces and film soundtracks, including tracks with Django Reinhardt in 1943.

Candrix's band continued until the 1950s, accompanying artists such as Coco Collignon, Jeff de Boeck, and the Valtonen Singers. One of his last performances was at the Jazz Middelheim Festival in Antwerp in 1973. Fud Candrix passed away on April 11, 1974, in Brussels, leaving behind a legacy as one of Belgium's most significant jazz figures.
