Freddy Breck, born Gerhard Breker on January 21, 1942, in Sonneberg, Thuringia, was a renowned German schlager singer, composer, record producer, and news anchor. Initially trained as a machinist, Breck pursued singing under Heinz Gietz, leading to a successful career in music. He became known for his schlager songs that often incorporated well-known classical melodies. His breakthrough came with the single "Überall auf der Welt," based on Verdi's "Va, pensiero," which topped the South African charts in early 1973. Over his career, Breck achieved significant acclaim, earning five platinum and 35 gold records.

In 1978, Breck released an English language album and later transitioned into a role as a news presenter during the 1980s. He also composed music for various groups, including the Original Naabtal Duo and the Kastelruther Spatzen. In 1998, he founded Sun Day Records with his wife Astrid, and they performed as a duo, Astrid & Freddy Breck. Freddy Breck passed away from cancer on December 17, 2008, in Rottach-Egern, Upper Bavaria, leaving behind a lasting legacy in the schlager music genre.
