Fabian Andre
Fabian Andre (January 8, 1910 – March 30, 1960) was an American composer and bandleader, renowned for co-writing the music to the classic song "Dream a Little Dream of Me" with Wilbur Schwandt in 1931. This song gained renewed popularity in 1968 when it was covered by the Mamas & the Papas. Born in La Crosse, Wisconsin, Andre was educated at St. Joseph's College and Marquette University. He studied music under Joseph Schillinger and Carl Eppert and became an arranger for dance orchestras on NBC in Chicago. Throughout his career, he led his own orchestra, focusing on Latin-American music, and recorded for labels such as Columbia and Fiesta Records. His notable works include "Dance of an Ear of Corn" and several other compositions. Andre served in the US Army during World War II and joined ASCAP in 1941. He died in Mexico City in 1960, with an autopsy citing "alcoholic congestion" as the cause of death.
