Edward Caswell
Edward Caswell is a distinguished English choral conductor, bass singer, and singing teacher, known for his versatile and respected approach to choral conducting. Born in England, Caswell was educated at the Bournemouth School for Boys and later at Christ Church, Oxford, and the Royal College of Music, where he studied singing under notable instructors including Norman Bailey. He further honed his skills with private studies under Edward Brooks and Robert Dean.

Since relocating to Scotland in 2003, Caswell has built a strong reputation across the UK and Europe, working with prestigious ensembles such as the Monteverdi Choir, BBC Singers, and the English National Opera. He is particularly noted for his ability to approach choral conducting from a singer's perspective, which has earned him widespread respect in the field.

Caswell has been a regular guest conductor with the Netherlands Radio Choir since 2008, preparing them for performances with prominent conductors like Kenneth Montgomery, Hans Graf, Masaaki Suzuki, and James Gaffigan. His collaborations with renowned orchestras and conductors, including Riccardo Chailly and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, and Bernard Haitink and the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, highlight his distinguished career. Notable projects include the Netherlands premieres of John Adams' "The Gospel According to the Other Mary" and Detlev Glanert's "Caligula" under Markus Stenz.

In addition to his conducting career, Caswell holds leadership roles with multiple choirs, including the Dundee Choral Union, St Andrews Chorus, and the Wordsworth Singers in Cumbria. He is also a director of the Paisley Choral Festival and teaches at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama and the University of Glasgow. In 2013, he founded the Cromarty Youth Opera, which has successfully presented works such as Benjamin Britten's "Noye's Fludde" and Peter Maxwell Davies' "Cinderella."

As a singer, Caswell's career highlights include performing the role of Fasolt in "Das Rheingold" for Arizona Opera, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 at London’s Barbican Hall, and Mozart’s Requiem with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra at the St Magnus Festival. He continues to perform as a recitalist, with notable performances such as "Winterreise" in St Andrews.

Caswell is also active in educational and community outreach, leading workshops and directing the "Health and Wellbeing Through Song" program at the University of Strathclyde. He serves as a council member and regular presenter for the Association of British Choral Directors.
