Dmitry Popov
Dmytro Popov is a distinguished tenor known for his significant contributions to the world of opera. He gained international recognition after winning the 2nd prize and a special prize at the XV International Operalia Competition in Paris in 2007. Popov's professional debut occurred in 2002 with his performance as Lensky in "Evgeny Onegin" at the Kiev National Theatre. His career continued to flourish with notable debuts, such as his 2011 performance as Likov in "The Tsar’s Bride" at the London Royal Opera House (Covent Garden) and his 2013 debut at the Mariinsky Theatre as Alfredo in "La traviata," conducted by Valery Gergiev.
Popov's talent has been showcased on prestigious stages worldwide, including the Wiener Staatsoper, Opernhaus Zurich, Teatro Regio di Torino, Hamburgische Staatsoper, Dresdner Staatsoper, Opéra de Monte-Carlo, Theatre du Capitole de Toulouse, and Bayerische Staatsoper. In 2016, he performed as Alfredo in "La traviata" opposite Placido Domingo at the Wiener Staatsoper and made his debut at the Metropolitan Opera in New York as Rodolfo in "La bohème."
He has collaborated with esteemed conductors such as Valery Gergiev, Gianandrea Noseda, Marco Armiliato, Vladimir Yurowski, Antonio Pappano, Kent Nagano, and Kazushi Ono. His performances have included Verdi’s Requiem with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the London Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as Rachmaninov's "The Bells" with the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, recorded by EMI in 2013. In 2015, Oehms Classics released a CD of the opera "Iolanta," featuring Popov as Vaudémont, conducted by Dmitri Kitayenko.
