DJ Bobo
DJ BoBo, born Peter René Baumann on January 5, 1968, in Kölliken, Switzerland, is a renowned Swiss singer, songwriter, rapper, dancer, voice actor, and music producer. He is the son of Italian father Luigi Cipriano and Swiss mother Ruth Baumann. Initially trained as a baker and confectioner, Baumann's passion for music and dance led him to pursue a career in the entertainment industry.
Baumann began his DJ career in 1985 and quickly gained recognition by securing second place in the Swiss DJ Championships in 1986. His early singles, "I Love You" (1989), "Ladies in the House" (1991), and "Let's Groove On" (1992), paved the way for his breakthrough hit "Somebody Dance with Me" in 1992, which topped charts in Switzerland and Sweden and reached the top five in several European countries. This success was followed by other hits like "Keep on Dancing," "Take Control," and "Everybody."
Throughout his career, DJ BoBo has sold over 14 million records worldwide, released 12 studio albums, and 34 singles. He has received numerous Gold and Platinum certifications and won ten World Music Awards for being Switzerland's best-selling artist. His music, characterized by a fast-paced Eurodance sound, has found success in Europe, Canada, Asia, and South America.
DJ BoBo was the opening act for Michael Jackson in 1996 and has collaborated with artists like Irene Cara and Sandra. Known for his elaborate tours, he continues to perform internationally. Privately, Baumann resides in Hergiswil near Lucerne with his wife Nancy, whom he married in 2001, and their two children.
