Dave Baxter
Dave Baxter, known by his stage name Avalanche City, is an indie folk musician from Auckland, New Zealand. Born in the UK, he moved to New Zealand when he was six months old and grew up in Tauranga before relocating to Hamilton. Baxter began playing guitar at the age of nine and was involved in bands during his teenage years. He pursued a Bachelor of Media Arts in Commercial Music at Waikato Institute of Technology, graduating in 2005.

In 2009, Baxter left his job as a music writer to focus on recording and writing music. He founded Avalanche City and released his debut album "Our New Life Above the Ground" in 2011. The album's lead single, "Love, Love, Love," became a No. 1 hit in New Zealand, earning him the APRA Silver Scroll and several nominations at the New Zealand Music Awards. His follow-up album, "We Are for the Wild Places," released in 2015, featured another chart-topping single, "Inside Out."

After releasing "My Babylon" in 2019, Baxter took a hiatus from music, citing burnout as the reason. He returned in 2024 with the single "Keep That Love" and performed at Festival One in 2025. Throughout his career, Baxter has been recognized for his catchy hooks and poetic lyrics, making a significant impact on the New Zealand music scene.
