Danzel
Danzel, born Johan Waem on November 9, 1976, in Beveren, Belgium, is a Belgian musician renowned for his dance music, particularly his 2004 hit single "Pump It Up!" This track achieved significant success, reaching the top 10 in several European countries, including Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Poland, Romania, and Switzerland. It also peaked at number 11 on the UK Singles Chart and number 29 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart. Despite the massive success of "Pump It Up!", his subsequent singles did not reach the same level of popularity.
Danzel's musical journey began with his participation in the Belgian version of the television talent show Idol, where he gained recognition as a vocalist. His stage name was inspired by his admiration for the American actor Denzel Washington. Before his solo career, he was involved in music as a member of the pop-rock group Scherp Op Snee (SOS) and performed as a backing vocalist with the Belgian group LA Band.
His debut single, "You Are All of That," released in 2003, was a modest success in Europe. However, it was "Pump It Up!" that catapulted him to international fame. The song was a remix of a late 1990s hit by the Black & White Brothers and sold over 500,000 copies worldwide. Danzel continued to release music, including his debut album "The Name of the Jam" in 2004 and a second album, "Unlocked," in 2008. Despite being labeled as a "one-day singer" by critics, Danzel has maintained a presence in the international music scene, continuing to perform and release music.
