Danny Kortchmar, born on April 6, 1946, in New York City, is a renowned American guitarist, session musician, producer, and songwriter, also known by the nickname Danny Kootch. His contributions significantly shaped the sound of the singer-songwriter era of the 1970s, working with iconic artists such as James Taylor, Carole King, Linda Ronstadt, and Carly Simon. Kortchmar's musical journey began in the mid-1960s with bands like the King Bees and The Flying Machine, the latter featuring a young James Taylor. He later joined The Fugs before moving to California, where he formed the trio The City with Carole King and Charles Larkey.

Kortchmar's session work in Los Angeles during the 1970s and 1980s made him a sought-after guitarist, collaborating with artists like Jackson Browne, Warren Zevon, and Harry Nilsson. He was part of the band The Section and recorded with Attitudes for George Harrison's Dark Horse label.
