Daniel Jobim
Daniel Canetti Jobim, born on February 23, 1973, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, is a renowned Brazilian singer, composer, and pianist. He is the grandson of the legendary Tom Jobim, one of the founders of bossa nova, and the son of guitarist Paulo Jobim. Daniel began his musical career at the age of 15, initially focusing on piano due to his shyness about singing. Despite passing the entrance exam for geography at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro, he chose to pursue music lessons instead.
In 1995, Daniel and his father won a Grammy Award for Best Latin Jazz Album for their work on Antônio Brasileiro, Tom Jobim's posthumous release. That same year, Daniel formed the group The Bridge, which released an album in Japan and the US in 1997. He also co-founded the Jobim Morelenbaum Quartet, which toured internationally and released an album in 2000, focusing on his grandfather's compositions.
Daniel continued his tribute to bossa nova through the Jobim Trio, formed with his father and drummer Paulo Braga, releasing the album Novas bossas in 2008 with Milton Nascimento. He has collaborated with numerous artists, including Dorival Caymmi, João Gilberto, and Stevie Wonder, and participated in significant projects like the album Falando de Amor in 2005.
In 2014, Daniel toured with A Twist of Jobim, and in 2016, he performed "The Girl from Ipanema" during the opening ceremony of the Rio Summer Olympics. In 2017, he released Sinatra & Jobim @ 50 with John Pizzarelli, celebrating the iconic collaboration between Frank Sinatra and Tom Jobim, followed by an international tour.
Daniel Jobim's career is marked by his dedication to preserving and interpreting the music of his grandfather, contributing significantly to the legacy of bossa nova and Brazilian popular music.
