Dagmar Zsapková-Sebestová
Dagmar Zsapková-Sebestová, born on June 24, 1956, in Bratislava, is a prominent Slovak flutist and music educator. She pursued her early music education at the Conservatory in Bratislava from 1971 to 1975, studying under Ladislav Šoka and Viktor Vavro. She furthered her studies at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava from 1975 to 1979 under Miloš Jurkovič and continued with a two-year artistic scholarship at the Academy of Music and Drama in Prague with Prof. František Čech.
Since 1979, Dagmar has been performing with her husband, guitarist Jozef Zsapka, as part of the duo Dagmar & Jozef Zsapka. Their collaboration has earned them international recognition, and they have performed across the globe in countries such as Japan, the USA, Mexico, and many European nations. Dagmar has premiered numerous compositions by contemporary Slovak and international composers, with several works dedicated to her, including pieces by Jorge Cardoso, David Babcock, and Igor Rechin.
In addition to her performance career, Dagmar Zsapková is a dedicated educator. She has been teaching at the Conservatory in Bratislava since 1982 and at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava since 2007, where she became a professor in 2019. Her students have gone on to perform with prestigious orchestras and pursue successful careers in music. Dagmar is also active in leading master classes and serving on juries for international music competitions. Her contributions to music have been documented in six profile albums released by labels such as Opus and Akcent.
