D Randel
Randall McNeil, known professionally as DJ Randall, was a pioneering British jungle and drum and bass DJ and record producer born on April 2, 1970, in East London, England. He passed away on July 31, 2024, at the age of 54. Randall's journey into music began in the late 1980s when he was introduced to DJ scratching and mixing. His encounter with acid house music at the 1987 Notting Hill Carnival inspired him to start buying records and listening to other DJs.

Randall's first significant exposure came from playing at the 'Delirium' warehouse parties in Stratford, East London, and his debut on pirate radio with Centreforce in 1989. His major breakthrough occurred at the 'Living Dream' rave in Leyton, where he delivered an impromptu two-and-a-half-hour set due to the absence of Colin Faver. This performance helped establish him as a prominent figure in the breakbeat hardcore scene.

He co-owned the De Underground record shop and label in Forest Gate, which played a crucial role in the release of Lennie De Ice's "We Are I.E." Randall became a regular at influential club nights and was best known for his residency at AWOL. He began producing records, releasing music on De Underground and Reinforced Records. In 1994, he collaborated with Andy C on the track "Sound Control," released on RAM Records.

In 1997, Randall founded the Mac II record label and continued to perform until his death. He was celebrated as the "godfather of breakbeat" and was instrumental in revolutionizing the jungle sound in the early '90s, influencing artists like Andy C. His contributions to UK hardcore, jungle, and drum and bass music were recognized with a heritage plaque in 2021. Randall's legacy lives on through his music and the many artists he inspired.
