Culture Beat is a German Eurodance project that was formed in 1989 by Torsten Fenslau in Frankfurt, Germany. The group initially included producers Torsten Fenslau and Peter Zweier, and later expanded to include various vocalists and performers over the years. The act is best known for its Eurodance style, which combines elements of house music and synthpop.

The group's first single, "Der Erdbeermund," released in 1989, achieved success in Germany, peaking at number 11 on the German singles chart. Culture Beat's lineup saw several changes, with New Jersey-born rapper Jay Supreme and British singer Tania Evans joining in the early 1990s. This lineup achieved significant international success with their 1993 hit single "Mr. Vain," which topped the charts in 13 countries, including Germany, Australia, and the United Kingdom, and became a mainstream hit in the United States.

Following the success of "Mr. Vain," Culture Beat released their second album, "Serenity," which sold over two million copies and earned them the ECHO award for Best-selling German Act Abroad. Tragically, in November 1993, founder Torsten Fenslau died in a car accident, and his brother Frank Fenslau took over the project as manager.

The group continued to release music, with their third album "Inside Out" in 1995, but subsequent releases failed to replicate the success of their earlier work. Despite lineup changes and a decline in mainstream popularity, Culture Beat's early hits, particularly "Mr. Vain," remain iconic tracks of the 1990s Eurodance scene. The group has continued to produce music into the 2000s, maintaining a legacy as pioneers of the Eurodance genre.
