Cornelius Freundt
Cornelius Freundt, also known as Bonamicus, was a German composer and Kantor born around 1535 in Plauen, Germany. He passed away in Zwickau, Germany, where he was buried on August 26, 1591. Freundt's early life and training remain largely undocumented. His career included serving as a Kantor in Borna before taking up the position of Kantor at St. Marien in Zwickau in 1565, where he also taught at the Ratsschule.

Freundt was primarily known for his contributions to church music, especially his Christmas songs and motets. He compiled 28 sets of Christmas carol books, of which he wrote 15. His compositions were characterized by sonorous melodies and contrapuntal harmonies, often in the style of motets. Freundt's work was influential enough to be included in songbooks across various German cities like Zwickau, Dresden, Brunswick, and Gotha, with some pieces remaining in use until the late 18th century.

In addition to his musical endeavors, Freundt was involved in teaching and other community activities, such as producing plays and constructing a sundial for the town of Zwickau. His Christmas music was revisited in the late 19th and mid-20th centuries through new editions by Georg Göhler and Konrad Ameln, respectively, which helped preserve and promote his work for future generations.
