Carlo Sabajno
Carlo Sabajno (1874-1938) was an influential Italian conductor, primarily known for his role as the house conductor of the Gramophone Company in Milan from 1904 to 1932. During his tenure, he was instrumental in recording some of the earliest orchestral works, including a notable 1906 recording of Edward Elgar's "Salut d'Amour" with the La Scala Symphony Orchestra. Sabajno's work extended to operatic recordings, such as his direction of Puccini's "Madama Butterfly" featuring Margaret Burke Sheridan in 1929-30. His contributions to early 20th-century recorded music were significant, capturing performances that have been preserved as part of the classical music legacy.
