Armando Freire
Armando Augusto Freire, known professionally as Armandinho, was a celebrated Portuguese fado guitarist and composer, born on October 11, 1891, and passing on December 21, 1946. Renowned for his mastery of the 12-string Portuguese guitar, Armandinho was a pivotal figure in the fado music tradition, considered one of the heirs to the legacy of Petrolino (Luís Carlos da Silva). His influence and skill made him a legendary figure in Portugal by the time American travel writer Lawton Mackall documented his performances in 1931. Armandinho's work is featured in several fado compilations, and his contributions to the genre have cemented his status as a key figure in the history of Portuguese music.
