Afroman
Joseph Edgar Foreman, known by his stage name Afroman, was born on July 28, 1974, in Los Angeles, California. He spent parts of his early life in Mississippi and later moved to South Central Los Angeles and Palmdale, California. Afroman's musical journey began in his youth, with his first song "Hairy Carrie" written during middle school. He started recording homemade songs and selling them to classmates, gaining early recognition for his music.
Afroman's career took off with the release of his breakout single "Because I Got High" in 2000, which humorously depicted the effects of cannabis use. The song gained widespread popularity through Napster and was featured on The Howard Stern Show, leading to its inclusion in films like "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back." The success of "Because I Got High" earned Afroman a Grammy nomination in 2002.
Following his initial success, Afroman signed with Universal Records and released "The Good Times," a compilation of his earlier work. He later became an independent artist, releasing multiple albums such as "Afroholic...The Even Better Times" and "The Hungry Hustlerz: Starvation Is Motivation."
