Adil Fedorov
Adil Fedorov was born in 1948 in Leningrad to a musician's family. At the age of seven, he entered the Secondary Special Music School of the Leningrad State Conservatory, studying clarinet. He graduated with a silver medal. He then graduated with honors from the Leningrad State Conservatory named after N.A. Rimsky-Korsakov, where he studied with outstanding musicians V.N. Krasavin (clarinet) and M.V. Karandashova (chamber ensemble), and then completed an assistantship/internship in 1973.
In 1973, he entered the Leningrad Philharmonic Academic Symphony Orchestra through a competition as clarinet leader. He toured with the orchestra in 30 countries. As a soloist, he performed with orchestras conducted by A. Dmitriev, S. Sondetskis, E. Serov, A. Vedernikov, V. Ziva, A. Titov, and J. Domarkas. As a soloist and ensemble member, he toured in Switzerland, Germany, Macedonia, and Slovakia.
The musician devotes particular attention to chamber music; his chamber repertoire is extensive and varied. He has premiered a significant number of world music works in Russia. A number of works by contemporary St. Petersburg composers were written especially for A. Fedorov. His discography includes works by W. A. Mozart, I. Stravinsky, S. Prokofiev, B. Tchaikovsky, G. Ustvolskaya, and P. Shlein. He has collaborated with such outstanding musicians as B. Pergamenschikov, N. Gutman, A. Lyubimov, V. Buyanovsky, A. Ugorsky, G. Kovaleva, and M. Gantvarg.
Since 1975, he has taught at the St. Petersburg State Conservatory, where he leads a chamber ensemble class. A. Fedorov's graduates have won international competitions and work with leading musical ensembles in Russia and abroad. In 1991, the musician was awarded the honorary title of Honored Artist of Russia, and in 2006, the academic title of professor.
