Adam Geibel was born on September 15, 1855, in Neuenheim, Germany, and passed away on August 3, 1933, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Despite being blinded by an eye infection at the age of eight, Geibel became a successful composer, conductor, and organist. He studied at the Philadelphia Institute for the Blind and composed a variety of works, including Gospel songs, anthems, and cantatas. Geibel founded the Adam Geibel Music Company, which later evolved into the Hall-Mack Company and eventually merged to become the Rodeheaver Hall-Mack Company. Among his popular secular songs are “Kentucky Babe” and “Sleep, Sleep, Sleep.” His compositions were diverse, ranging from patriotic marches like "Guard the Flag" to sentimental pieces such as "Our Darling's Last Good-Night."
