After founding his first band in Hanover post-World War I, Lutter emigrated to South America in 1922 due to economic hardships in Germany, returning in 1928 to establish a significant entertainment orchestra in Berlin. His orchestra became highly esteemed, performing regularly at notable venues such as the Wilhelmshallen am Zoo and the Café Berlin. Lutter collaborated with various singers and was a guest conductor for Telefunken, producing numerous recordings. Following World War II, his orchestra became the house orchestra for Berliner Rundfunk. Lutter retired in 1961, leaving behind a legacy of influential recordings and performances. His work continued to be recognized posthumously, with his music featuring in films such as "The House of the Spirits" (1993) and "Therapy for a Vampire" (2014).
