Academic Symphony Orchestra of the Saint Petersburg Philharmony
The Saint Petersburg Academic Symphony Orchestra, originally founded as the Leningrad Radio Orchestra in 1931, is a prestigious ensemble within the Saint Petersburg Philharmonia society. Its inception as a concert ensemble led to its evolution into the Leningrad Radio Symphony Orchestra, known for live broadcasts and a diverse repertoire. During World War II, it was the sole orchestra to remain in the besieged city of Leningrad, famously performing Shostakovich’s Seventh Symphony under Karl Eliasberg in 1942. This performance is noted for its authenticity, reflecting the musicians' inheritance of the "Leningrad Symphony" tradition.

In 1953, the orchestra was incorporated into the Saint Petersburg Philharmonia and gained the status of a philharmonic orchestra. It has been led by notable conductors such as Karl Eliasberg, Nikolai Rabinovich, and Yuri Temirkanov, who significantly expanded its repertoire and international recognition. The orchestra has collaborated with esteemed composers and soloists, including Igor Stravinsky, Benjamin Britten, and Dmitri Shostakovich.

The orchestra celebrated its 90th anniversary in 2021, marking a rich history of performances and tours across the globe. Under the leadership of conductors like Aleksandr Dmitriyev and Nikolay Alexeev, it continues to thrive, performing works by classical masters and participating in significant musical events.
