Angelo Valsiglio, born Arcangelo Valsiglio on October 15, 1946, in Casoria near Naples, Italy, is a renowned Italian pianist, arranger, songwriter, and producer. Known for his precision and talent, Valsiglio's career began after he was noticed for his technical skill while playing in American venues in Naples. He was subsequently engaged by Antonio Taccogna, manager of the group Showmen, and Marino Barreto, a prominent Cuban singer and bassist.
Valsiglio's career took a significant turn when he signed as an author-arranger with the record label Ricordi, where he began focusing on composition. He wrote songs for various artists, including Buongusto, Carrà, Cecchetto, Milani, Fiordaliso, Collage, and Boncompagni. Notably, in 1983, five of his compositions were featured at the Sanremo Music Festival.
A pivotal moment in his career was the 1993 Sanremo Music Festival, where he won in the Nuove Proposte category with "La Solitudine," performed by Laura Pausini. This song became a massive hit and marked the beginning of Pausini's successful career. Valsiglio has written over 500 songs, including "Gente come noi" for Ivana Spagna and "Storie" for Anna Oxa, and has managed the interests of artists like Eros Ramazzotti and Fiordaliso.
Valsiglio's contributions to music extend beyond composition; he has served as the artistic director of Castrocaro Terme and has been involved with Sanremo Rock, a festival aimed at showcasing emerging rock talents. His aliases include Leonard Washington and Leowash, and he has been part of various groups such as AIDA, Apollonia, and Plastic Mode.
