A Pype
Olayiwola Ibrahim Majekodunmi, known by his stage name General Pype, is a Nigerian reggae and dancehall musician born on October 9, 1983, in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria. Raised in Lagos, he began his musical journey in the 1990s, joining a 30-man classical ensemble while attending St. Gregory’s Secondary School in Obalende. His early exposure to music led him to explore reggae and dancehall, inspired by artists like Bob Marley, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, and Sean Paul.

General Pype, whose name stands for Prolific Youth Positive Entertainer, gained international recognition with his 2007 single "Keep It Cool," which was featured on the American TV series "The Shield." His 2009 hit "Champion" further established his presence in the music industry, earning him the Channel O Music Video Award for Best Dancehall/Ragga Video in 2010.

Throughout his career, General Pype has collaborated with various artists, contributing to the mainstreaming of reggae and dancehall in Nigeria. He has worked with highlife pioneer Sunny Neji, and hip-hop artists like MI and Sasha. Known for his "tube-sound," a fusion of reggae with elements of hip-hop, rock-pop, and R&B, Pype has been involved in over 120 collaborations.

After leaving Storm 360 Records, he founded Obalende Records, named after the Lagos suburb where he grew up. General Pype is married to Zee, and they have two children. His music continues to resonate globally, characterized by positive messages and a unique blend of genres.
