Bonnie Tyler, born Gaynor Hopkins on June 8, 1951, in Skewen, Neath, Wales, is a renowned Welsh singer celebrated for her distinctive husky voice. She gained early fame with her 1977 album "The World Starts Tonight," featuring hits like "Lost in France" and "More Than a Lover." Her 1978 single "It's a Heartache" became a transatlantic hit, reaching number four on the UK Singles Chart and number three on the US Billboard Hot 100.
In the 1980s, Tyler collaborated with songwriter and producer Jim Steinman, resulting in her iconic hit "Total Eclipse of the Heart," which topped charts worldwide. The song was part of her 1983 album "Faster Than the Speed of Night," making her the first British female artist to debut at number one on the UK Albums Chart. Another notable hit from this era was "Holding Out for a Hero."
During the 1990s, Tyler found success in mainland Europe, particularly with the song "Bitterblue," written and produced by Dieter Bohlen. In 2003, she re-recorded "Total Eclipse of the Heart" as a bilingual duet with Kareen Antonn, achieving a number one hit in France.
Tyler continued to release music, including the 2013 album "Rocks and Honey," featuring the single "Believe in Me," which she performed at the Eurovision Song Contest representing the United Kingdom.
