Joseph Satriani, born on July 15, 1956, in Westbury, New York, is an acclaimed American rock guitarist, composer, and songwriter. Known by the moniker "Satch," Satriani has been a pivotal figure in the instrumental rock genre since the mid-1980s. He began his musical journey inspired by the legendary Jimi Hendrix, which led him to quit football and pursue guitar playing at the age of 14. His early music education included studies with jazz guitarist Billy Bauer and pianist Lennie Tristano, which greatly influenced his technical prowess.

Satriani's career as a guitar instructor was marked by the success of his students, including notable figures like Steve Vai, Kirk Hammett, and Alex Skolnick. In 1978, he moved to Berkeley, California, where he continued teaching and began his professional music career. His breakthrough came with the 1987 release of "Surfing With The Alien," which became a landmark in instrumental rock, achieving platinum status and establishing him as a prominent figure in the music industry.
